Remote Drug Delivery and Animal Capture

Remote Drug Delivery or “Darting” allows safe  animal capture by administration of sedative mediation to animals that can’t be handled or cannot be safely approached.

Escaped animals can bring many challenges if they are in an area that can’t be easily secured.

In the case of potentially dangerous animals sedation by dart can provide an alternative to lethal means such as shooting if public safety is threatened.

Dangerous wild animals, by their nature are unsafe to handle. In the event they need treatment or relocation darting is often the safest method to gain control, both for the animal and the operator. In the UK this can be particularly true of deer who can suffer extreme stress when subjected to physical restraint.

In some situations, feral/unhandled domestic animals need to be treated or moved. While it is preferable to “tame” these animals in advance, sometimes time constraints make this impossible. Darting allows us to achieve what is required if training is not possible within an allowed timescale.

In the event of a dog being dangerously out of control or presenting a threat to public safety, RDD of sedatives affords a non lethal method of gaining control of the animal while safeguarding public and operator safety.
