Feral Pony Capture

It is a sad reality that with increasing  costs and also the difficulty in finding homes, some horses and ponies get abandoned to fend for themselves. This seemed to be the situation for a pony mare and her foal that had been free on the hills for a while. She had no owner and her and her foal had been living free for a while. Unfortunately they were spending too much time on a busy road and safety concerns meant they had to be relocated. It was a privilege to work with World Horse Welfare on this job and fortunately, after a quick darting, they are safely now at a re-homing centre.

Unhandled Colt Castration

Recently we had a case of a young colt who was very reluctant to be handled, to the extent that he was impossible to catch. Unfortunately he was also starting to show some aggressive behaviour, making training efforts difficult. Fortunately after darting with sedation we then proceeded to perform a routine castration. The plan is to continue training efforts now that he is gelded which should make things much easier.

Wolf-Dog Examination

A client of ours has two beautiful Wolf-dog hybrids and after a bit of slightly rough playtime one had developed a small swelling under her jaw. Unfortunately this had not responded to initial medical treatment so needed a bit of further investigation. A simple sedation and some samples were collected. Following laboratory analysis we have a diagnosis. Happily a reasonably good one!

Lynx Anaesthesia

Recently we were asked to help with some pre-movement testing of some captive Lynx who were moving to a new home. This was a great opportunity to work with these beautiful animals and help them find a new home.

Although used to people the animals can’t be handled like a normal cat! So they were darted and anaesthetised to allow us to collect the samples we needed. They also got a full health check at the same time. Happily everything went perfectly and they have now moved to their new home.
